As I stepped onto the floor at Enon Ranch that afternoon, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude and honor to be part of this important event. The room was beautifully decorated in shades of pink, setting the perfect tone for “Pink Power,” our theme for the day. With breast cancer survivors, their families, friends, and community supporters gathered, the energy in the room was palpable—a collective commitment to honoring strength, resilience, and hope.
I began by sharing how truly excited I was to be there and moderating this impactful conversation. “It is an absolute honor and privilege to be here today, moderating this powerful and deeply important conversation,” I told the audience, expressing how grateful I was to be in the presence of such incredible women. Our panelists, consisting of a medical advocate and breast cancer survivors, had generously come to share their journeys with us, offering not just their stories but also their hearts, to inspire and empower others.
The afternoon unfolded into almost two hours of intimate and moving discussions. With each question, I could feel the room hanging on every word, as each panelist shared their personal stories—talking about the courage it took, the support they found in their families and friends, and how their experiences had reshaped their lives. It was a privilege to lead these conversations, and I focused on creating a compassionate space where they could feel safe sharing their most vulnerable moments.
As I looked out at the audience, I saw family members, community leaders, dignitaries, and supporters who had gathered to show their respect and encouragement. Among them was Chief Keith Meadows of the City of South Fulton Police Department, a crucial supporter of the event, whose presence reminded us all of the strength that comes from community. Also, KaVon Arnold, who had poured her soul into planning the day. KaVon lost her mother to cancer, and this afternoon held special meaning for her—a tribute and an act of love in her mother’s memory.
Toward the end of our discussions, I took a moment to recognize those that helped make the event possible, inviting the audience to join me in a round of applause for their dedication. It was truly inspiring to witness their dedication to such a personal and meaningful cause.
As I shared my closing remarks, I wanted to leave the audience with a sense of the power of community, awareness, and support. “To our remarkable panelists, thank you for your openness, vulnerability, and courage. Your words have touched us all,” I said, feeling the gratitude of everyone in the room. I thanked our audience for being there, the City of South Fulton Police Department for their support, and especially the sponsors, whom all helped to make the event possible.
That afternoon at Enon Ranch was more than just an event; it was a celebration of resilience, community, and the indomitable human spirit. The stories we heard, the hope we shared, and the sense of unity we felt embodied the true meaning of “Pink Power.” It was an experience I’ll carry with me, a reminder of the courage that comes from sharing our stories and the strength that comes from standing together.
